Guide to Shoes

A Chic Woman's Guide to Shoes

It's no secret that women adore shoes. When you are blue, buying a new pair is an instant mood lifter. And on special occasions, you must have something special to wear. The truth is, there will always be a good excuse to add to your shoe closet.

Don't Be Tempted

Even if you love a pair, if you can't walk in them, don't buy them. Limping around in heels is decidedly ungraceful.
Dare to Wear Brights

An electric hue can amp up a look, including outfits in colors other than black and denim. Try colored shoes with white, khaki, and pastels. A scarlet-red dress, however, calls for neutral footwear.

Choose One Attention Getter

If you are wearing an over-the-top dress, for example, keep your shoes toned down.
But if your look is low-key, a standout shoe (and something like this pair would definitely qualify!) adds excitement.

Wear What's Appropriate

Open-toe sandals may be too risqué for a conservative suit, while a flat may be too casual for a cocktail frock. Keep your sneakers relegated to gym clothes or casual jeans. When in doubt, it's hard to go wrong with a classic black pump like this pair.

Going Outdoors? Say No to Stilettos

It will be difficult to walk when your heels keep sinking into the ground, and you'll ruin your shoes. Flats are fine, but if you want height, wedges are an ideal option.

Make a Statement

A spindly stiletto sandal is all about looking sexy, while a bow-emblazoned kitten heel veers more toward cute. Know what look you're going for, and go full out.

Va-va-voom Shoes Have Their Place

Nighttime is the right time for attention-getting shoes. If you still want to wear a knock-'em-dead look during the day, choose a closed-toe or peep-toe pump.

Pair Sky-High Shoes with Tame Hemlines

When going for major air, keep your hemlines at an inch above the knee. But when wearing a short skirt or dress, wear a lower heel or flat — it will balance you out and keep you from showing altogether too much leg.

Wear Flats with Properly Hemmed Clothes

Make sure your clothing is tailored or you'll risk looking sloppy. A trouser leg should fall at or above the ankle, while skirts or dresses should end above the knee.

Think About Balance

(And we're not talking about the kind you need to walk.) A thicker-heeled shoe grounds a heavily layered look, when something dainty could look off balance. The reverse also holds true. When wearing a wispy frock, a thin-strapped sandal is an appropriate match.

Foundation Concealer Questions

What is primer and do I need it?

“A primer is a fairly misunderstood product – most women skip using it because they don’t know what it is or what it does. A serum-like gel, primer seals in your moisturiser and provides a smooth surface for foundation. Primer will keep your make-up from being absorbed into the skin, so it will last much longer.”
Laura Mercier, Celebrity Make-up Artist.

Tips for finding the right shade?

“Using natural daylight gives you the best chance of matching the correct shade.”
Max Factor Make-up Artist Caroline Barnes

“To find the best match, remove any make-up from your jawline and apply two to three possible foundation shades along the edge. The shade that is invisible or blends in with your skin is the best shade.”
Jannine Nicholas, Selfridges Clinique Consultant

“If your neck and chest are a little darker than your face, use a light bronzer to match them up, not a darker foundation.”
Cassie Lomas, Bourjois Celebrity Make-up Artist

How should I apply my foundation?

“Foundation should enhance your skin rather than acting as a mask, so use sparingly and only where needed, usually around the T-zone. Leave your skin naked where it’s clear. This gives an overall natural look.”
Caroline Barnes, Max Factor Make-up Artist

“The key to foundation is that you should look like you but better. You shouldn’t change your skin colour and you don’t need a mask of foundation.”
Liz Pugh, Rimmel Make-up Artist

“Apply foundation with a brush to avoid excess oils and heat from your fingers smearing your base. This also helps the product go further.”
Cassie Lomas, Bourjois Celebrity Make-up Artist

“Some people like to apply with a flat foundation brush, but I prefer to buff into the skin with a buffing brush. Use upward oval motions to ensure a more polished finish.”
Rachel Wood, Benefit Celebrity Make-up Artist.

Should I apply concealer before, or after, foundation?

“Always conceal after applying your foundation, it you conceal first you risk moving it around your face when you start the application process.”
Kirtsin Pigott, UK make-up artist and spokesperson for Rimmel
Do I need to apply powder afterwards?
“Just powder the T-Zone to avoid looking greasy. Translucent powder is best.”
Liz Pugh, Rimmel Make-up Artist

Should I stick with the same foundation and shade all year round?

“Change your foundation between summer and winter and/or holiday tan skin and when you are paler. If you go between shades try out a tinted moisturiser and top with a heavier concealer where needed.”
Rachel Wood, Benefit Celebrity Make-up Artist.

BEYONCÉ Heat perfume : Video

Heat is the first fragrance by attractive and talented Beyonce and it arrives on the market in February 2010. Name of the fragrance was inspired by Beyonce's tour and performances. Colour of flacon and liquid was chosen after Beyonce's favourite colour – red, with a wish to look like fire with antique details.
Beyonce's temperament was depicted through the whole concept of the fragrance, from name and design to composition created in cooperation with perfumers of the house of Givaudan - Claude Dir and Olivier Gillotin. Top notes of Heat are decorated with red vanilla-orchid, magnolia, neroli and peach. A passionate heart offers honeysuckle, almond and musky cream, while a base finishes with sequoia wood, tonka and amber.

Even though Beyonce is advertising face of perfumes Diamonds Armani and True Star Tommy Hilfiger, she says that her first fragrance, Heat, represents herself. Her wish is that her first fragrance stands for everything that makes her and that she is content with the final product, without worrying about deadlines of work on the perfume. "This is my first fragrance and I want to be sure that I will love it forever! " - stated Beyonce for wwd.

Fragrance Heat was created in an antique glass flacon, just like Beyonce wanted. She coloured it in red nuances which remind of flames transforming into burning orange. Fiery and sexy, just like her, the flacon is decorated with a discrete gold detail on neck of the flacon with engraved name of the fragrance. Assortment of Heat perfume includes 30, 50 and 100ml EDT, along with a 200 ml golden lotion.

Advertising campaign was made by photographer Michael Thompson, while video commercial was directed by Jake Nava. Face of the advertising campaign is Beyonce Knowles, of course.
